formula,s for the fore staysail
this sail is almost the same as a triangle ,although there is a part of this sail that ends after the mast,, often two cloth,s
it is important to keep this sequence of the formula,s
clew down =
(leech X leech)+(foot X foot) - (luff X luff) : 2 X leech
biggest width = extraction of roots
(foot X foot)-(clewdown X clewdown)
number of cloths =
biggest width : cloth width
luff gore =
(leech - clewdown): number of cloth
foot gore =
clew down : number of cloth
surface =
leech X (biggest width : 2)
below you find a table were you can fill in the outcomes but you are not ready jet ,, this sail has a rounded foot
the fore and after length are the lengths of the sides of each cloth the first (nm.1)cloth is always the
cloth that holds the clew
in the table below we can fill in the aftherlenght of the first cloth , that,s easy, now we can fill in the luff gore that we must - subtract then the foot gore that we must + add and now we have calculated the fore length of first cloth.
the afterlength of cloth NM. 2 is the same as the forelenght of cloth NM. 1 and so on !!!!
