measuring the forestaysail
for measuring this sail is in a way the same method of working as the jib,
again take the line and knot it in the middle of that line on to the block
that you normal use for hoisting up the staysail when the block is in his position
and that is as high as possible secure the halyard to his own clamp ,
clean up the deck of rope,s and line,s so that there will not be any mistake with this material
now we have two line,s coming down from the staysailblock ,
one will be the luff/foot and the other wil be the leech length.
we start with the lufflenght
take one line, pull it tight and secure it without any slack on the hook or eye that you
normally use for securing the tack of the staysail
this is the lufflenght ,the rest of the length of this line wil be the footlenght,
take this part together with the line that come,s down from the block, hold them
and go backwards, now pull them tight and make in your mind the image of the
line that comes from the clamp to the clew, let this line run in 45 degrees to
make sure that it is pulling on the foot and the leech part and there must be
atleast a amount of length say 1 meter between the clew and the clamp
when you have found this position and you are sure that it is good knot the two lines
together and bring the rest to the clamp just for checking that it is pulling
on the foot and the leech
now you have the outline,s of your staysail and again take a few steps back and
look from a distant if it fits your feeling for the good proportions
when it,s OK lower the hole thing and measure the line,s included the knots and write them
down in good order and be sure that you write the good length by the good name of this length
don't leave anything to memory.
